Reiver Men's Soccer Defeat #10 Barton County!
The Reivers men's soccer team defeated #10 nationally ranked Barton County 2-0 at Great Bend High School on Saturday, August 28th. The Utah standout, Casey Black opened up the scoring for the Reivers early in the 2nd half. He was assisted by Mohamed Salama who did well to find the ball just past the halfway line. He then passed in a penetrating through ball to the on-running Black who neatly touched the ball past the Barton County goalkeeper. 14 minutes later, Casey Black darted on a devastating counter-attack up the left flank. He found a wide open Leigh Veidman who buried the ball in the back of the net. The Reivers had the momentum and went onto a convincing 2-0 win. IWCC goalkeeper, Tony Banos, is credited for the Reivers’ first shutout of the season.
The Reivers also played #12 nationally ranked Garden City on Sunday, August 29th where they recorded their first loss of the season, losing 3-0. Drained from a late evening game which ended at 11:30 pm versus Barton County and 30 mph winds, the Reivers had little time to recover the next morning and faced terrible field conditions. The Reivers started off the game in the seventh minute by scoring on the wrong end as Beau Johnson headed a Garden City free kick in the back of their own net. Garden City went on to score in the 21st and 69th minute of the game ensuring a top 10 ranking in the national polls next week.
The Reivers have their first home game of the regular season as they face Region XI rivals, Marshalltown, on Tuesday, August 31st at 4:00pm.
