Iowa Western is going bowling. The NJCAA No. 4 Reivers clinched at least a share of the Midwest Football Conference West Division title by drubbing North Dakota State College of Science 56-24 Saturday.

IWCC earned an automatic bid to next month’s Graphic Edge Bowl and kept its national title hopes alive while improving to 8-0 on the season.

Wes Smith returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown and set up another score with a 37-yard reception as the Reivers raced to a 29-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Zack Stoudt threw for three TDs and ran for another for Iowa Western, which wraps up its regular season against Ellsworth at home on Oct. 30. The sophomore quarterback completed 20 of 29 passes for 218 yards in a little less than three quarters of action.

“We were just taking what they were giving us,” Stoudt said. “We just got rolling. It’s not like we did anything special or anything we haven’t done before. We just threw a little bit more.”
NDSCS managed only one score against Iowa Western’s starting defense. The Wildcats turned the ball over four times in the first half and trailed 49-6 at the break.

“These guys have responded week in and week out,” IWCC coach Scott Strohmeier said. “They’re focused right now.”

NOTES:
Defensive tackle Jared Ebert received a scholarship offer from Oklahoma State Friday, and Oregon on Thursday, and Penn State also had a scout at Saturday’s game to watch him. ... Four IWCC players – linemen Dan Heiar and Dallas Hendrikson, cornerback David Whitmore and Stoudt – are scheduled to make an official visit to Wyoming this weekend.
