Reivers fall short in last home match
Although the Reivers have not come up short too often this season, Tuesday night was an exception. It was sophomore night and Iowa Wesrern hosted one of its oldest rivals in Western Nebraska.
It was a hard fought match between two nationally ranked programs. In the first two sets the Reivers came out strong, taking early leads and forcing the Cougars into timeouts. However, in each case the Rievers' push stalled and they came up short at the end losing set one 23-25 and set two 22-25. The Reivers fell behind early in set three but mounted a fierce comeback closing the gap to six losing 19-25.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Darrin McBroom said he was pleased with the team's performance that evening. "Western Nebraska is always a tough opponent and we have been struggling to play consistent this season. Even though it was a loss, our team is beginning to do a lot of little things right."
The Reivers finish the regular season at a mark of 39-6 and rank No. 14 in the latest national poll. The team will head to Carbondale, IL for Super Regionals November 5th-7th.
