Reivers Defense does the Job
Iowa Western defeated Ellsworth Community College 69-59 to stay undefeated and 5-0 on the season. For the first ten minutes of the game Tuesday night, the Reivers defense was perfect, holding Ellsworth to only one made basket. Ellsworth ended the contest shooting only 29% from the field.
Great defense in the first half sent the teams into the locker room with the Reivers up 40-19. The second half was somewhat of a different story as the Reivers looked like they were sleep walking through the second half but managed to pull out the win. Coach Turgeon was pleased with the great 25 minute effort but needs a whole 40 from the Reivers.
Bobbi Beckwith lead the Reivers with 13 points to go along with 4 assists. Amber McCann chipped in 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 block shots. Lakota Goe got her shot going from the arch going 3 for 5 with 11 points. Sarah Woods was a spark offensively in the first half scoring 8 points and finishing the game with 11 respectively. Lanita Calloway led the glass with 10 rebounds.
The Reivers are back in action Friday and Saturday for the Reiver Classic. They will host Bethel College J.V. Friday in Kanesville Arena at 7:00pm and Saturday Hastings J.V. at 3:00pm.
