Reiver Softball Program Announces Three 2012 Recruits
Coach Lana Ross and the Reiver Softball Program announce three recruits for the 2012-2013 season.
Ashley Schmidt - Raytown, MO
Raytown, Missouri native Ashley Schmidt signs her Letter of Intent to the Iowa Western Softball program. During her High School career she was named to the First Team "All-Conference" once, Second Team "All-Conference" twice and "All-District" twice. As a sophomore at Raymore Peculiar High School, Ashley was named the Varsity Softball Team's MVP. In 2009, Schmidt's travel softball team "KC Freeze" took 1st Place in the 16A USSSA World Series and was selected to the "USSSA All-World Team." The Freeze were also selected as the Softball Today's USSSA 16A Team of the Year. Ashley's stellar career has netted her an overall record of 318 to 88 with a lifetime ERA of 1.01.
Taryn Kelly - Glendale, AZ
Glendale, Arizona product Taryn Kelly commits to Iowa Western for the 2012-2013 season. Kelly led her high school team in hits, RBI's, batting average and on-base percentage in 2009 and 2010, earning her the MVP award for both years. Following those stellar two seasons, Taryn went undefeated in 2011 while pitching with four saves. Taryn's travel ball experience with the Arizona Junior All-Stars led them to the an Arizona State Championship and a 2nd-place finish in the Western Regionals. This past summer, she continued to play in Massachusetts, winning the ASA State Championships along with 5 other tournaments.
KayLynn Chrisman - Sheridan, OR
Hailing from Sheridan, Oregon, KayLynn Chrisman set her winning career in motion, taking her high school team as a Freshman to the second round in state playoffs and was awarded 2nd Team All-League Pitcher. Chrisman was also successful in 2009, being awarded the 2nd Team All-League Utility. After transferring in 2010, KayLynn started at second base and was awarded Honorable Mention Infielder. KayLynn also brings academics and philanthropy to Iowa Western after being a member of her local Perrydale FFA Chapter and helped in the Million Hour Community Service Challenge Award.
