Reivers Open with Solid Performances at Wayne State

The Iowa Western Reivers Track & Field team season began with a great start to the outdoor campaign. The team traveled to Wayne State College as the multis kicked off the meet on Friday continuing into Saturday.
Tatiana Silva had a great start to her weekend as she won the women's heptathlon with a new school record in the event with a score 4311. With the mark it will put her high on the NJCAA national heptathlon event list; as top 16 in the nation make the national meet. Also on the women’s side Rachel Lee’s and Natalie Olberding saw top 3 finishes in there event’s with Lee’s placing 3rd in the women’s high jump and Olberding finishing 3rd in the 400m hurdles.
The men had a good start to their season as well with some strong performances on Saturday. Rodrigo Rocha continued his success from the indoor season by opening up with a new meet record and winning the event in a time of 21.52. Teammate Jordan Landburg also went under the meet record finishing 3rd in the event with a time of 21.75 that being a big PR for Landburg who’s primary focus is the 400m dash. Terrance Johnson had a big day in the 400m dash winning his heat by nearly a second and just missing the NJCAA national qualifying mark with a time of 48.79 to finish 4th in the event. Nick Teetzel opened up his season in the 3k steeple chase which marks his first time every running the event to place 2nd with a time of 10:09. The men’s 4x1 had a good day as well as Landburg and Rocha teamed up with Alonzo Markham and Ronnie Ratliff to qualify for nationals and finish 2nd at the meet with a time of 42.05. To continue Rocha’s busy day he also ran on the winning 4x400m team that broke the meet record with a time of 3:17.93 the team consisted of Denzel Washington, Arius Montjoy, Rodrigo Rocha, and Terrance Johnson. The mens Long Jump was one of the best events of the day for the Reivers as Marc Clearveux and Rolyce Boston finished 1st and 2nd in the event as Clearveux in the process of setting a new meet record with a jump of 7.50m (24’7”.25) which qualifies him for nationals in the event.
The Reivers will continue their outdoor season as they head down to Barton Community College for the Border War’s challenge as teams from Iowa will team up against teams from Kansas in what should shape up to be a good meet.
