Reivers Softball Sweep NCMC
In game 1, Iowa Western Community College outlasted North Central Missouri College on Wednesday after five lead changes, squeaking out a 10-5 win at Council Bluffs, IA.The Reivers took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. Kylee Simpson went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for IWCC, as she singled in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Greta Smeins showed good command, throwing strikes on 69 of her 110 pitches. Smeins collected six strike outs and walked three for Iowa Western Community College. In the top of the first, North Central Missouri College grabbed the early lead, 1-0, but Iowa Western Community College tacked on another four runs in the sixth. Rebekah Sanchez scored for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Simpson's single, scoring Vanessa Molina, confirming the win.
In game 2, IWCC jumped out to an early lead on North Central Missouri College and captured a 14-0 victory. With five runs in the first three innings, Iowa Western Community College left no doubt about the eventual outcome.A double by Cailin Simpson, a single and stolen base by both Daleigh Fossler and 2 RBI single Kylee Simpson, another RBI single from Taylor Jonas, and an RBI single by Breana Canova in the first inning and in the second inning helped Iowa Western Community College put some runs on the board early.It was a good day at the plate for the Reivers' Rebekah Sanchez. Sanchez went 3-4, drove in one and scored three runs. Sanchez doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the second and fourth innings.Iowa Western Community College's Kylee Polsley kept North Central Missouri College off the scoreboard for all five innings she toed the rubber. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out three.Iowa Western Community College built upon its lead with nine runs in the fourth as Joselynn Sakaguchi began the inning with a triple. Sanchez's double kept things going, plating Joselynn Sakaguchi. Molina reached on error, while Cailin Simpson hit an RBI double, Kylee Simpson followed with an RBI triple, Jonas' RBI double, Canova reaching first, and Jordan Kerns hitting a 2 RBI single.
