Reivers Fight Through Poor Weather

The Reivers split up competition this weekend as half the team went to Wichita State for the KT Woodman Classic and the other half attending the Sioux City Relays for one of the biggest meets in the state of Iowa for college and high school.

With a rain shortened meet due to thunder and lightning for an extended period of time, Saturdays competition ended early with still plenty of events left to go. That wouldn’t stop freshman Jahlil Rider from taking first place in the Long Jump with a new personal best jump of 6.99m (22’11”.25). Jahlil was the top Reivers at the competition as the team faced up against some pretty talented Division 1, Division 2, and NAIA competition.

The Rievers that went to Wichita State University overcame extreme windy conditions to come away with three national qualifiers and numerous personal bests.  To lead off the Reivers sophomore Nick Teetzel competed Friday evening in the 3000m. Steeplechase and earned himself a spot to the Outdoor National Championships in May. Teetzel's time of 9:46 puts him nationally ranked in the top 8 for that event. Coach William's sprint squad had a strong day on the track as well.  Jordan Landburg and Alonzo Markham hit qualifying standard in the 400m. and will be catching the bus to nationals as well. Jordan Bright and Natalie Olberding had strong performances for the lady Reivers as well.  Bright triple jumped 11.35 which ties her personal best for the year and Olberding runs her second fastest 400 hurdle time this year in pour weather conditions.

Competition for the team will resume this weekend with the team heading to Doane Relays Friday and Saturday. The Region XI Multis will also be held this weekend at Iowa Western on Sunday and Monday.
