Reivers Split Home Series With Marshalltown
For the first time all season, the Reivers fail to win a weekend series. The Tigers of Marshalltown came into town a took two games from the Reivers.
The Reivers entered the weekend with a record of 44-1, and holding the Number 1 spot in the NJCAA national poll. But in dropped the opening game of the series by the score of 3-7/
The team would bounce back with a win in the second game of the double header 5-1 on the heels of strong pitching performaces from starter AJ Gaura, and relievers Kyle Gehrs and Keeton Steele.
On Sunday the two teams met again for a rain filled double header. On two different occasions the game was stopped due to heavy rainfaill. The Reivers would win the first game on the day as Tanner Krietemeier started on the mound, John Roberts pitched 2 2/3 in relief, and Pascal Paul earned the save in the 5-2 win.
In the series finale, the Reivers jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first, but left the bases loaded. The game entered a rain delay in the top of the third, and when the delay ended, the Tigers would come out and score 3 runs, giving them the lead. They would tack on another run in the 4th and 7th innings and win the final game of the series 5-2, and earn a split in the series.
The Reivers are now 46-3 overall, and 27-3 in conference. The team will wrap up its Conference schedule with a a double header at Southwestern on Wednesday.
