Iowa Western men's soccer team lost their third conference game of the season at home against the Warriors of Indian Hills Community College. The first half was back and forth as the Warriors kept the ball for longer spells, but the Reivers were finding space and success on the counter attack. However, both approaches did not lead to clear cut scoring chances until four minutes from half. Theo Le Calve swung in a dangerous set piece that the Warriors were unable to clear. The ball eventually fell to the feet of Sophomore Vicente Gallardo who was able to calmly finish from short range as he took a hit on his ankle. The goal marks Gallardo's second of the season for the Reivers.
The second half started well for the Warriors as the Reivers midfield became more stretched. 11 minutes into the half the Warriors were level through a cool finish from Gustavo Barroso. He received a bouncing through ball in the right corner of the box, and he was able to lift the ball over the advancing Daniel Bermingham. Both teams continued a back and forth half as they both had promising movements break down when the critical pass was needed. The Warriors found the winner with 1:20 left on the clock. The Warriors found space on the left side of the field following a free kick. The cross that followed was partially cleared by Bermingham and then partially cleared again by captain Jaaziel Thompson. The Warriors got another look from distance which was blocked by the traffic in the box, but the third time proved successful as David Medeiros' shot from 20 yards found the bottom corner of the net to give the Warriors the win.
The Reivers move to 2-3 in the conference which puts them in sixth place. The Reivers are on the road as they travel to Dakota County Technical College to take on the ninth placed Knights this Saturday, September 29th. The game can be seen live at 4:00 PM at the campus of Dakota County Techinical College, or online at http://goreivers.com/information/reiver-sports-network.
