Reiver men's soccer drops their final game of the spring season to the Mavericks of University of Nebraksa Omaha. The Reivers started quickly with a goal in the opening 10 minutes of the game. The Reivers moved quickly off of a UNO turnover which put freshman midfielder Quinton Kipara behind the Mavericks backline. Kipara battled with the retreating defenders and onrushing keeper for possession of the ball. The ball eventually found its way to freshman forward Mateo Mendez Schroeder who was able to poke the ball home before the keeper was able to recover his positioning. The Mavericks answered back from a corner kick that was flicked on at the near post and finished off with a looping header over the reach of the Reiver's goal keeper. The Mavericks struck again before the half finished with another looping effort. This time it was from a volley from outside of the box that found just enough space between the reaching arms of the keeper and the cross bar.
The second half was a similar story as the first with the Reivers getting on the score sheet first. This time redshirt freshman Fitzroy Cummings was able to disposses a UNO midfielder and found freshman forward Fernando Zaragoza in space on the left flank. Cummngs pass into space put Zaragoza in a 1v1 with the UNO keeper who was able to block the first attempt by Zaragoza, but could do nothing with his second effort on the rebound. The Mavericks got back in front when the right winger was able to get to the endline and cut a ball across the face of goal for a close range finish. The Mavericks then got into the right side of the box again and finished high at the near post from close range. The third goal of the half for the Mavericks came down the middle and tired challenges came in from the Reiver players. The player on the ball then slid a short pass to another Mavericks player who was able to finish under the diving effort from freshman keeper Daniel Bermingham.
The Rievers end their spring season with a record of 1 win, 1 tie, 2 losses.
