CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Iowa Western (7-4) fell to Kirkwood (7-2) in Cedar Rapids on Saturday at Johnson Hall on the campus of Kirkwood Community College. The Reivers battled back and forth all throughout the game after taking a lead into the fourth quarter but were foiled in the final minute after Zhan'e Williams half-court shot missed just left at the buzzer.
The Reivers were paced by Jazza Johns, who poured in 14 points on 6 of 10 shots and pulling down seven rebounds, while Sophomore Zheniah Jackson added 11 points sinking three of her six shots from beyond the arc. Kiara Dallmann did a little bit over everything with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one block.
The second matchup between the two teams resembled the first game, a defensive battle. Taking a one-point lead into the break, the Eagles were paced by Tayanna Wilson who finished the game with 12 points while shooting 6 of 8 from the stripe. Coming out of halftime, the Reivers flexed their offensive muscles scoring 20 points on back-to-back buckets by Johns and Dallmann.
The rollercoaster continued in the final stanza, as the Eagles went ahead on a three-point play by Megan Axcell. Freshman Naomie Alnatas tied the game at 51-51 after a deep strike from the three-point line with under two minutes to play. The teams traded one last score but the Reivers couldn't capitalize on the final plays on the offensive end to extend the game.
