Reivers Gearing Up for Spring Sports Kickoff; Will Begin Play With No Spectators
Council Bluffs, Iowa
Here goes nothing.
For the first time in Iowa Western history, championship seasons for all but one campus sport will conclude in the spring. Men's and Women's Soccer, Volleyball and Football, normally fall sports will begin play this spring in conjunction with delayed starts for Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Bowling and Wrestling. Throw in the resumption of Men's and Women's Golf and Sport Shooting and 'normal' seasons for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Baseball and Softball and it's going to be a wild spring in Reiver Country.
Indoor Track & Field will begin this weekend with the team competing in Maryville, Missouri while Volleyball, Bowling, and Men's and Women's Basketball are set to begin the week of January 18th. Both basketball squads and volleyball will play host at Reiver Arena in front of essential personnel only.
The presidents of the ICCAC institutions confirmed in a November vote, that there will be no spectators allowed at all indoor athletic events to start the Spring 2021 season. Indoor athletic events include basketball, bowling, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, volleyball, and wrestling. The policy also includes any baseball, soccer, or softball game moved to be played inside.
Student-athletes, coaches, and necessary staff will be the only personnel allowed at indoor events.
As in the fall for all outdoor events, allowing spectators will be up to the discretion of the host.
The decision was made in the best interest of the health and safety of Iowa Western student-athletes as well as providing the best opportunity to compete and complete their Spring 2021 seasons. The ICCAC institutions will continue to evaluate COVID-19 and may review allowing spectators in the future.
ICCAC institutions are committed to providing viewing opportunities with the ICCAC Sports Network through BlueFrame Technology, the official streaming partner of the ICCAC.
In addition to Iowa Western and the Reiver Sports Network, nine other ICCAC schools are featured on the ICCAC Sports Network, including DMACC, Hawkeye, Iowa Lakes, Kirkwood, Marshalltown, NIACC, Northeast, Southeastern & Southwestern. Those teams not on the ICCAC Network can be found on their individual school websites.
Pay-Per-View pricing for the RSN includes a season, 30-day, and per-game option. Assistance with access to RSN Broadcasts can be found here.
The host school of each event will be in charge of streaming the contest.
