Iowa Western Athletics Staff Update
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western Athletics has announced the promotion of Ian Alumbaugh to the role of Associate Athletic Director. Alumbaugh had been the Director of Esports for the past two years at IWCC.
In his new role, Alumbaugh will cover game day administration duties as well as assist the Athletic Director with compliance with all policies and guidelines established by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Iowa Western Community College.
Replacing Alumbaugh as the Head Esports Coach will be Bill Riccetti. Riccetti had been the Assistant Esports Coach since the spring of 2022, helping the program to four national championships.
Riccetti has also been an Assistant Professor of Media at Iowa Western since 2019 and will continue this role along with his head coaching duties.
Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, Riccetti holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Wilkes University and a master's degree in integrated communications from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Riccetti resides in Omaha, NE with his wife Bonnie and two children, Bonnie and Rocky.
Monica Mendoza was hired this past spring as the Associate Head Coach Women's Wrestling. Coach Mendoza comes to Council Bluffs after spending the past two seasons at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa as an assistant coach. Mendoza competed collegiately at Oklahoma City University for four years, placing at the U23 World Team Trials, US Open Championships, and Senior Nationals.
Monica hails from Des Plaines, Illinois, and Maine West High School where she was an IWCOA women's state champion, two-time Illinois freestyle state champion, and Fargo All-American. Coach Mendoza completed her bachelor's degree in business administration at OCU in 2021 and earned her master's degree in healthcare administration in 2022.
Iowa Western has also hired Joseph Dreiling as its new Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Dreiling spent the past year as an Athletic performance Graduate Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. During his time at UWRF, Joe was responsible for the strength and conditioning of men's hockey, women's basketball, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
Dreiling completed his Master of Science in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 2023 and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Illinois State University in 2021. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
The department welcomes two new athletic trainers to fill a pair of open positions. Kenzie Emodi comes back to Iowa Western after spending the 2018-19 season as a student intern. Emodi earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology in 2021 and her master's degree in athletic training in 2023 from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Jesse Kracht earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from UNO in 2021 and completed his master's degree in athletic training in 2023. Kracht previously interned with UNO Men's Basketball and Virginia Tech Football.
