Reivers Survive in OT vs NIACC
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 24 Iowa Western Men's Basketball moved to 11-0 on the season as they defeated the NIACC Trojans in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Council Bluffs. The Reivers and Trojans remained tight for much of the first half, but the Reivers' zone defense began to give the Trojans some problems. Iowa Western would take a 6-point advantage into the halftime break with a score of 32-26.
In the second half, the Reivers would extend their lead to 15 midway through the half. NIACC switched to a zone defense, which allowed them to crawl back into the contest. In the final minute of play with both teams knotted up at 67, each team would have a decent chance to win the game, but both were unsuccessful.
The Reivers would figure out the NIACC zone in the overtime period and come away with a 76-72 victory in Reiver Arena. Nate Parras led the Reivers in scoring with 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Judah Vignery scored 17 points on 7 of 14 from the field. Jordan Dewaele just missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Iowa Western moves to 11-0 on the season and 2-0 in the ICCAC. Next, the Reivers will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska, for a matchup with Northeast Community College on Wednesday evening.
