Iowa Western Men's Golf Runner-Up in The Howl at the Hill; Wahman Leads Team With 4th Place Finish
Lincoln, NE – The Iowa Western Men's golf team competed in the Howl at the Hill hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University, April 13th and 14th and Hillcrest Country Club was the venue. The Reivers saw all 12 team members in action.
Iowa Western's "A" team took second place in the event and had two members medal with top 5 individual performances. Iowa Western's "B" team tied for fourth place amongst the 9-team field. The Reivers also had 2 individuals competing, Joseph Kelly finished 12th in the 52-man field with rounds of 74-78, and Jett Hollister finished 34th with rounds of 78-82.
Team "A" was led by Sam Wahman who carded 1-under par 71 in round 1 and 4-over par 76 in round 2 which secured a 4th place individual medal. Close behind and helping Team "A" was teammate William Welsh who turned in a pair of 74's which was good enough for the 5th place individual medal. Sam Wells would assist Iowa Western's top five team carding 76-74 (8th place individually), and Lloyd Hughes would round out the scoring for Team "A" with 75-78 (14th place).
Team "B" was led by Emmanuel Jensen who posted a pair of 77's (16th place), Steven Gormley came in with 82-73 (18th place), Keaton Barnes got into the mix going 77-78 (19th place), Carter Madison assisted Team "B" as he would shoot 84 in round 1 but came back with a 74 during round 2 and finished in 26th place. Ethan Main competing on Team "B" would post 80-79 (31st place).
"Our top five did some good things, but the difference this week came down to our putting," said Iowa Western's Director of Player Development Ryan Norman, PGA. "We did not putt well enough to win, had too many mistakes on the greens. If we can clean that up and then get our up and down percentage better, we will be able to post more under par rounds. However, it is always nice when we play this event because the whole team can come out here and compete on the same day with their friends and teammates."
Iowa Western is back in action April 22nd and 23rd at the Southwestern Spring Invite hosted at Lake Panorama, in Panora, IA.
