Reivers Finish 4th at the Plains District Championship
Springfield, MO – Iowa Western Men's Golf just completed the 2026 NJCAA Plains District Championship at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, MO. The Reivers entered the tournament as the 4th highest ranked team in the field and would finish 4th overall. The top 3 teams in the district championship received automatic bids into the NJCAA D1 National Championship. Iowa Western will wait to see if they will receive an at large bid.
Day 1 of the tournament saw 36-holes of action, consisting of round 1 and round 2. The Reivers got off to a rough start in the opening two rounds and saw themselves in 8th place of the 9-team field after the opening two rounds.
Day 2 Iowa Western regrouped and showed a steady level of play and were even par as a team through 13 holes of the final round. That effort helped them climb the leaderboard to sit in a tie for 3rd with Garden City CC before a 4-hour rain delay halted play. After the restart, the Reivers would drop a couple of shots in the final 4-holes to eventually end up tied for 4th place with Dodge City CC.
Ty Potter led the way for the Reivers after firing 72-78-70 to finish 14th individually in the event. Teammates William Welsh and Sam Wells would finish tied for 23rd, Welsh would shoot rounds of 76-79-73, Wells would post 75-78-75. Lloyd Hughes would finish 30th individually after posting 79-76-77, and Sam Wahman would finish 33rd after shooting 83-78-75. The Reivers also had one individual competing, Emmanuel Jensen finished 34th individually after rounds of 79-75-83.
"We had a disappointing start to the tournament," Iowa Western Director of Player Development Ryan Norman, PGA said. "Our guys came out and appeared to not really be locked in. We have talented players, and sometimes players can make mental mistakes if they are not keyed into the process of playing the game. I saw decision-making issues that led to us giving a lot of shots away to the field," Norman said. "I was pleased with how the guys responded on the final day. I challenged them to be better and be better by executing our game plan. We can compete if we do not hurt ourselves. I hope we get another chance to compete with this group at Nationals, we will wait and see."
