Reiver Swimming Takes Third in Second Season
FORT PIERCE, FL - In just their second season as a program, Iowa Western Men's and Women's Swimming finished on the team podium, both earning third place.
The Reivers earned 593 points on the men's side and 516.5 points on the women's side. Indian River State College men's team finished in the top spot for the 52nd consecutive time, and their women's team earned their 44th in a row. Southwestern Oregon ended as the national runner-up on both sides.
Two Reivers earned three individual national titles: Sam Brunel won the men's 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:05.35. He would then go on to win the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:36.76, just .04 seconds ahead of Barton's Caio Ribeiro. Rounding out the titles was Marsol Bernat, winning the men's 200-yard butterfly in 1:48.42.
Brunel would also finish second in the 500-yard and 1650-yard Freestyle, while Marsol earned a top-five finish in the 50-yard fly, 100-yard fly, and 100-yard IM.
On the women's side, Sophomore Sammy Diaz finished top-five in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 1000-yard freestyle, and the 1650-yard freestyle. Kaylee Johnson finished in 4th place in the 200 IM, and Sophomore Emily Walters finished third in the 100 IM and fifth in the 200 IM.
