Softball Sweeps Southeastern
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western softball defeated Southwestern CC, 9-4 and 12-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Saydee Plummer went the distance in game one, tossing three scoreless frames before being knocked for four runs in the fourth inning, including a 3-run home run from Sydney Cain.
The Reivers (31-5) scored in five of their six innings, with crooked numbers in the second, third, and fifth. Freshman Shortstop Taylin Tabor continued her hot hitting, falling a home run shy of the cycle with three RBI. Sophomore Kamira Botos went a perfect 4-4 at the plate and launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third.
In game two, it was all Iowa Western. The team led off the bottom of the first with three runs and then sent 13 batters to the plate in the next frame, scoring eight runs on seven hits. Freshman Kennedy Borud lined her 15th double of the season to right-center field.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Logan Brown picked up her eighth win of the year, needing just 49 pitches to work four scoreless innings, giving up two hits. Freshman left-handed pitcher Kyla Parker came in to work the fifth and set the Spartans down 1-2-3.
Iowa Western is back in action on Friday from the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Complex with a doubleheader versus Marshalltown at 2:00 pm.
With 12 games left in the regular season, individual and team records are on the watchlist for potential to be broken.
