COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 21 and top-seeded Iowa Western Softball swept 4-seeded Marshalltown CC, 21-0 and 10-0, to advance to the ICCAC Region 11 final.
The Reivers (45-5) struck early and often in game one, putting up four runs in the first, eight in the second, and nine in the third. In just three innings, Sophomore Kamira Botos hit a 2-run home run, singled and scored, doubled, and led off the third inning with a triple down the right field line to complete the cycle.
The last time a Reiver hit for the cycle came on March 1, 2024, when Moira Baxter went 4-4 against Dakota Wesleyan in a 9-0 victory in Council Bluffs.
Freshman Kennedy Borud launched a pair of 2-run home runs to both sides of the field while Freshman Harlee Fowler also lined a 2-run shot to right center. Freshman Shortstop Taylin Tabor extended her on-base streak to all 50 games this season with five hits across both games.
Sophomore Right-Handed Pitcher Saydee Plummer earned her 21st victory of the season, striking out three Tigers to give her 206 strikeouts for her Reiver career.
Game two saw the offense spot Logan Brown a 5-run lead in the first inning with a 2-run double from Ruclaireth Tovar Rodríguez and a 2-run bomb from Kiana Ledoux. Tabor would steal five bases throughout the game, including two in the first and second innings each. Tabor is one stolen base away from tying the all-time single-season school record of 48, set by Moira Baxter in 2022.
Brown earned her 12th win of the year after Sophomore Briannah Kutschkau ended the game in the sixth inning with a pinch-hit 3-run home run, her third of the season.
Iowa Western will face the winner of (2) Southeastern CC and (3) Indian Hills CC on Sunday from the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Complex at noon.
