Women's Basketball Cap off Season with Win Against Southeastern
Council Bluffs, IA – The NJCAA Div. II No. 8th ranked Iowa Western Women's basketball team completed their regular season with a 103-60 win over Southeastern Community College. The Reivers increased their win streak to seven games as they head into playoffs with a record of 17-3 in conference and 20-7 overall.
After getting off to a rocky start to kick off the season dealing with COVID-19 protocols, the Reivers found their groove as the season progressed. The Reiver squad fought together and beat a top-ranked team (6th ranked Kansas City Kansas CC), were able to beat a Div. I team (McCook) and nabbed a couple of ICCAC Athlete of the Week wins (Ndidamaka Ndukwe & Aleshia Jones).
The team's success could be accredited to the depth of talent on the young Reiver team. The Reivers are averaging 78.7 points per game with their up-tempo style of play. The Reivers are led in scoring by Freshman Ndidiamaka Ndukwe who averages 14.6 points per game on 48% shooting from the field (seventh in the conference). She adds 8.5 rebounds per game which ties her for fourth place in the conference for rebounds per game.
Freshman guard Aleshia Jones is the team's second leading scorer who averages 14.1 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field. She is shooting 39.1% from well beyond the three-point line, which puts her fourth in the conference for three-point shooting percentage.
Freshmen forwards, E'Laiyah Heard and Michell Butler along with freshmen Hannah Burg and Courtney Fields are other players to watch out for.
The Reivers, currently ranked No. 8 in NJCAA Div. II and 2nd in the conference, will rematch against Southeastern Community College on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm in the Reiver Arena.
