Brayden Curry Promoted to Men's Wrestling Head Coach
COUNCIL BLUFFS - Iowa Western Athletic Director Shane Larson has announced that Men's Wrestling Assistant Coach Brayden Curry has been promoted to the Men's Wrestling Head Coaching position following Korbin Meink's resignation to pursue other opportunities last week.
"We are thrilled to promote Bradyen Curry to the role of head coach for our men's wrestling program at Iowa Western Community College," said Iowa Western Athletic Director Shane Larson. "His dedication to excellence, passion for the sport, commitment to developing student-athletes, and his ties to Southwestern Iowa make him the perfect leader to take our team to the next level. We can't wait to see the impact he'll have both on and off the mat."
"I am honored and incredibly excited for the opportunity to be the Head Wrestling Coach at Iowa Western Community College," said Curry. "This is a premier program with a proud tradition of excellence, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead and build from the strong foundation that has been established."
Prior to his role as assistant coach, Coach Curry spent two seasons as the Head Wrestling Coach at Minnesota West Community and Technical College, qualifying five wrestlers for the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament and coaching one NJCAA All-American.
A standout wrestler from Sergeant Bluff, IA, Curry was a 4-time State placer and 2-time State finalist in Iowa, wrestling to a record of 54-6 during his senior season while finishing third at State that year. Curry then moved on to Augustana University, where he competed at 133 lbs and 141 lbs for the Vikings.
"I look forward to working with our student-athletes, staff, and the Council Bluffs community as we continue to raise the standard of Reiver Wrestling both on and off the mat," added Curry. "I am excited to see what we will achieve together, Sails Up!"
Coach Curry earned his B.A. in All-Grades Education and Physical Education with a Minor in Coaching from Augustana University and will complete his M.S. in Sport Administration through Arkansas State University this Summer. He and his wife, Hope, are the proud parents of Miles and reside in the Council Bluffs area.
