COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - NJCAA No. 6 Iowa Western Women's Soccer claimed the program's sixth straight Central District title and 15th overall since 2004, defeating No. 13 Motlow State 5-1.
The Reivers (15-1-5) came out of the gates hot on a chilly afternoon at the Wiebe Sports Complex. In just the 4th minute, Gala Corbacho headed home a corner kick from Honoka Nohara to put the team up 1-0. Seven minutes later, it was Corbacho sending a ball into the box off a free kick, and Mariana Brito finished it on the volley to make it a 2-0 game.
Just over four minutes later, Honoka sent another corner into the box and off a clearance from a Motlow defender, Brito headed home her second goal of the match.
"Really proud of the performance of our team today," said Head Coach Bruce Erickson. "They beat a very good Motlow team today. We were really good in all phases of the game and the early goals set the tone."
In the 42nd minute, Nohara played her corner kick to the near post, and Carlota Escoda one-touched it back to her, and she buried it into the back of the net. Two minutes later, Rylie Washington made it 5-0, sending a long ball into the box and over the head of the Bucks' Goalkeeper Jordan Butler.
Motlow State found a goal in the 63rd minute from Madeline Welham to make it 5-1, but Iowa Western was too strong, outshooting the Bucks 16-5 overall.
"Really jappy for our group and excited for nationals," added Erickson.
The Reivers will head to the NJCAA D1 Women's Soccer National Tournament held in Enid, OK, from Nov. 16th to the 22nd.
