Meet Records Fall at Ichabod Invite
Two meet records were broken this weekend at the Washburn University Ichabod Invite. Mercy Honesty continued her winning ways by placing 1st in the women's triple jump with a 12.83m to break the previous meet record. Sakina Umar was 2nd place in a new personal best of 12.03m.
In the Men's 400m dash, Michael Francois sped around the track to a victory in 47.56 to also eclipse the previous meet record. In other action, Barnabas Ndiwa won the Men's 3000m run #3 time in the NJCAA in 8:10.11 followed closely by teammate Geofry Ronoh in 8:12.91 for 2nd place and the #6 time in the NCJAA this season.
Nikkolai Kennedy had a breakout meet first, lowering his PB from 7.96 to 7.94 in the prelims. Kennedy returned in the finals to finish 2nd place and #3 time in the NJCAA this season 7.82. This mark is also #2 in school history.
Ronoh was victorious in the Men's mile circling the track to 4:08.13, good for #5 in the NJCAA this season.
Hafssa Boutrich finished 4th in the Women's mile in 5:04.41. Charmar Smith came in 2nd place in the Men's 600y run in 1:12.20 and Ali Benzem 4th 1:12.89. Benzem doubled back on Saturday to finish 3rd place in the 800m in 1:53.82. Elizabeth Ewusie ran 10:14.84 to finish 8th in the #3 time in the NJCAA this season.
In the Women's 5000m Hafssa Boutrich and Ayianna Olivas both posted national qualifiers in 17:33.40 for 2nd place and 18:35.37 for 6th place respectively.
Cain Brown continued to show consistency, jumping 2.04m good for 3rd place in the Men's High Jump Invite section.
Sakina Umar finished as runner-up in the Women's Long Jump in 5.85m. Mercy Honesty finished 5th in a national qualifier of 5.58m
Yekini Bowen was the champion in the men's shot put with a 17.55m toss to win his 2nd meet in a row. Sarai Simpson provided a sweep for the Reivers in the shot put with a 14.53m toss followed closely by teammate Chin-Loy Raymond in 14.29m.
In the Men's Triple Jump OT Omot hopped, skipped and jumped his way to a new personal best of 15.00m, good for 2nd place. He was followed by teammate Abagotte Opiew in 3rd in 14.94m.
