Reivers Sweep Region 11 Championships
COUNCIL BLUFFS - For the fourth time in a row, Iowa Western Track & Field claimed both the men's and women's ICCAC Region 11 Outdoor Championships. It's also the third time in the last four years that the team has swept all four of the Region 11 titles, winning both genders of the indoor and outdoor seasons in the same year.
The Reivers won 26 events throughout the meet, including a 1-2-3 finish in the women's 800m, men's 10,000m, women's discus, women's shot put, and men's triple jump. The team also won three out of the four sprint relays, taking home the men's and women's 4x400m, and women's 4x800m while finishing as runner-up in the women's 4x100m and men's 4x800m.
Sophomore Mercy Honesty successfully defend her triple jump title while also winning the women's long jump. Freshman Juliana Sakat continued her dominance, winning the 800m and 1500m by a wide margin. Freshman Elizabeth Ewusie also doubled in two distance races, winning the 10,000m and 3000m steeplechase.
On the men's side, Michael Francois won both the 400m and 400m hurdles and helped the 4x400m relay to a winning finish. Sophomore Yekini Bowen took home the discus title and finished runner-up in the shot put. He earned four more points in the hammer throw for a two-day total of 22 points for 2nd on the team behind Francois' 22.5 points.
The teams will wrap up the 2024-25 track & field season with a trip to the NJCAA National Track Meet on May 15th through the 17th at Gowens Stadium in Hutchinson, KS.
