Reivers Remain Unbeaten with Win over Highland
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - In a battle of two teams who were undefeated coming into the contest, the Reivers remained undefeated on Wednesday night with a thrilling 67-66 win over the Highland Community College Scotties. In the early going, both teams were feeling their way through the game, as they struggled to score. The Reivers would seize some momentum to take an 8-point advantage into the halftime break with a score of 35-27.
In the second half, the Reivers would push the lead to 10 points on a couple of occasions, but the Scotties had answers of their own and quickly tightened the contest. Highland would even come back and take a 3-point lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Judah Vignery connected on a pair of big 3-pointers to tie the game and then to take the lead back from Highland.
In the final minute of play, the Reivers had possession and a 1-point lead. Zy Stewart missed a pull-up jump shot with 30 seconds remaining, and Highland would come away with the possession. The Reiver defense would stand strong and force Highland into a tough shot that missed the mark, and Iowa Western escaped with a hard-fought victory.
Judah Vignery led the way in scoring for Iowa Western with 16 points. Zayden Best contributed 14 points, and Jang Ruei chipped in 10 points.
Iowa Western is 8-0 on the season and will travel to Creston, IA, next Tuesday for the ICCAC Conference opener against Southwestern Community College. Iowa Western was "Receiving Votes" in the latest NJCAA poll.
