Reivers Earn Top-10 Win at Ellsworth
IOWA FALLS, Iowa - The 24th-ranked Iowa Western Reivers traveled to Iowa Falls, IA, on Saturday afternoon and knocked off the 6th-ranked Ellsworth Panthers. It was a slow start for Iowa Western as the Panthers quickly jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 3 minutes of action. The Reivers would settle in and chipped away at the lead and even took the lead by as much as 8 points in the first half. However, Ellsworth finished the half on a run and tied the game at 42 all at the halftime break.
The Reivers scored on their first possession of the 2nd half to regain the lead. Iowa Western would go on to lead by as much as 11 points midway through the half. Judah Vignery stepped up late and made several key baskets to keep the lead for the Reivers. After getting some key defensive stops late in the contest, the Reivers would put the Panthers away at the free-throw line. Iowa Western connected on 22 of 30 from the line and defeated Ellsworth by the final score of 88-81.
Judah Vignery led all scorers with 25 points on 10-15 from the floor. Zayden Best also had a big night, scoring with 20 points. Freshman point guard JP Sumo had 16 points and 5 assists, while Nate Parras finished with 13 points.
Iowa Western improves to 22-7 overall on the season, and 12-7 in the ICCAC. The Reivers' regular season finale will be vs Northeast Community College on Wednesday for Sophomore Night.
